How do they work?

Liraglutide and Semaglutide injections are injectable prescription medicines used for adults with excess weight (BMI ≥ 27) who also have weight-related medical problems or obesity (BMI ≥ 30).

  • Your body naturally produces an appetite hormone known as glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1) that helps to regulate your hunger.
  • Liraglutide and Semaglutide work like GLP-1 by regulating your appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight.

How does it work?

The Elipse balloon, by Allurion is a breakthrough weight-loss device. It is the first swallowable capsule gastric balloon that requires no surgery, endoscopy, or anaesthesia.

The soft balloon is placed in the stomach and is designed to help you reduce your food intake and kick-start your new, healthier lifestyle.

Most patients lose an average of 10 -15kg in 16 weeks thanks to the balloon and a fully supported lifestyle programme.

  • The process includes swallowing a capsule that contains a deflated balloon. The capsule is attached to a thin tube.
  • A simple X-ray is used to make sure the capsule is in the right position.
  • Once the capsule is in your stomach, your doctor will use the tube to fill the balloon with liquid.
  • It creates a constant feeling of fullness allowing patients to eat less without the feeling of hunger that accompanies most diets.
  • The Elipse Balloon is placed during a brief 20-minute visit.
  • At the end of the programme, the balloon self-empties and passes naturally without the need of a removal procedure.
